This week I have added even more detail to my course outline in hopes to refine the organization of my course. I have also continued adding information inside my Schoology course. As of now, I have almost everything inside the course. Hopefully I will have the next two weeks to create informational resources that will help tie together the loose ends for my future students.   • Module Three: Weeks 7-9

    • Goal-
      • Learners will illustrate how their knowledge of PLCs combined with prior learning experiences will benefit their future field work and inspire automation integration.
    • Learning Activities-
      • Research, review, and discuss the top field-preferred PLC manufacturers.
        • Students will create a graphic tool displaying the comparison of different programming software available for each manufacturer and share it with their classmates
  • Discuss how the fundamental knowledge of PLCs builds and expounds on prior learnings, and will continue to impact future work experience.
        • Students will collaborate on various ways information learned in previous courses has helped them understand the material we are covering in the PLC course
  • Assessment-
    • Incorporate logical circuits from various systems into the Automation Solution Program.
        • Students will program the previously converted logical circuits from Week 1 into their Automation Solution Program
  • Reflective Blog Post
        • Students will create a reflective blog post sharing their thoughts and ideas of how the material we are practicing in this class relates to, and builds upon information, techniques, and practices from previous classes, as well as how this new knowledge will impact future employment opportunities

Throughout this section, we will be focusing on how the use of PLCs combined with the knowledge and information covered in previous courses will help you rise to the top of the workforce selection and inspire the future of automation integration in the instrumentation industry. In this section, we will be researching various PLC manufacturers to ensure we are up to date with the latest and greatest technology being used in the field. Not only will we be reflecting on how this course cross connects with previous courses, but we will also be analyzing the impacts this knowledge will have on future employment opportunities.

Week Seven To Do List:

  • Research and review top field preferred PLC manufacturers
  • Create a graphic tool summarizing your findings
  • Post graphic tool to your e-portfolio and share the link through the discussion post

Week Eight To Do List:

  • Respond to discussion prompt and reply to at least two other classmates
  • Incorporate one of your previously converted logical circuits from Week 1 into your Automation Solution Program

Week Nine To Do List:

  • Create a Reflective Blog Post sharing your ideas of how this course connects information and ideas from previous courses and helps learners identify potential use in the future
  • Incorporate your remaining two previously converted logical circuits from Week 1 into your Automation Solution Program

 

  • Module Four: Weeks 10-12

    • Goal-
      • Learners evaluate the beneficial impact their creative PLC programming will have in the automation industry.
    • Learning Activities-
      • Review and discuss complex PLC instructions such as timers and counters, then join groups to practice designing and developing advanced programs to automate processes efficiently.
        • I will provide PowerPoint presentations from the textbook publisher to introduce students to complex PLC instructions such as timers and counters
        • Students will form groups of three to collaborate and help each other program advanced PLC functions
  • Review learning experiences completed to this point within the class, and discuss what we have, and have not completed that students want to learn more about.
        • Students will reread their initial blog post detailing their expectations of the course and identify what we have and have not covered, as well as any topics they want to learn more about
  • Assessment-
    • Collaboratively design and include complex PLC functions into the Automation Solution Program.
        • Students will work with their group partners to incorporate the advanced PLC instructions into their Automation Solution Programs
  • Blog Post comparing original class reflection to current reflection.
        • Students reread their initial blog post and create a new blog post comparing their original course expectations to what they have actually learned and how they feel about using the material in the field

In this section, we will evaluate the beneficial impacts our creative programming solutions can have on the continuously advancing automation industry. We will review, discuss, research, and program complex PLC instructions such as PLC timers and counters and identify how we can use these to enhance our programming capabilities.

  • Split into groups of two or three to collaboratively practice programming advanced PLC timers

Week Eleven To Do List:

  • Split into groups of two or three to collaboratively practice programming advanced PLC counters

  • Incorporate advanced PLC instructions into your Automation Solution Program to meet specific requirements

 

  • Module Five: Weeks 13-15

    • Goal-
      • Learners will locate and evaluate outside resources to enhance in-class learning as well as continue future learning.
    • Learning Activities-
      • Research and discuss several outside resources, simulation programs, PLC videos, forums, or PLC programming tutorials that will help enhance student learning.
        • I will provide a link to a trusted PLC forum for current field personnel and manufacturer representatives
        • Students will research and share any valuable resources with their classmates and discuss why and how they feel they are valuable
  • Finalize Automation Solution Program.
        • Students will review the Automation Solution Program requirement details and make any final adjustments, corrections, or enhancements to their program.
        • Students will share their final program with their group members to gain helpful insight and advice from classmates before final review by the entire class

In this section, we will locate and evaluate outside resources and their ability to enhance in-class learning as well as continue future learning.  Research and discuss several outside resources, simulation programs, PLC videos, forums, or PLC programming tutorials that will help enhance student learning.

Students will also finalize their Automation Solution Programs and create a presentation to share with classmates to demonstrate how creative programming, troubleshooting, and critical thinking produces various solutions to common problems.

  • Join class discussion

Week 14 To Do List:

  • Review Automation Solution Program requirements
  • Use PLC blogs, forums, and the class discussion board to answer questions
  • Make final adjustments to ASP

Week 15 To Do List:

  • Create a digital presentation introducing your ASP to classmates
  • Share with your previous group members from Module Four
  • Review each group members’ ASP and provide advice and recommendations before the final presentation in Week 16.

FINAL WEEK:

  • Learning Activities-
  • Present Automation Solution Program to the class for a shared-lessons learned.
  • Final Reflective Blog Post
